About Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy works with the client’s subconscious mind, to deal with unwanted habits/feelings. The conscious mind, whilst rational, is often defensive, challenging, overly critical, negative in thinking, cynical or disbelieving of new ideas. The subconscious mind is more open to new ideas, so unwanted habits/feelings can be worked on without the critical conscious mind during hypnosis. This brings about deep-rooted and lasting change of old habits, thoughts, pains, memories, emotions, etc. Unlike many other psychological therapies, the beneficial effects of Hypnotherapy can become apparent within relatively few sessions.

Who can be hypnotised?
Virtually everyone - although some are more readily hypnotisable than others and it will also depend upon one’s willingness to be hypnotised at the time. Hypnosis is a natural state all of us enter many times a day - you may be reading a book or watching television, and you realise you do not remember the last few minutes, or you become so absorbed in something you are doing, you can't believe how a couple of hours have passed by.

Will I lose control whilst under hypnosis?
No one can be hypnotised against their will, and once in a hypnotic trance, no one can make you do anything against your will. Your subconscious mind protects you from any harm, just as you would wake up from your sleep if you were disturbed by unusual noises. From your discussions with the therapist before the hypnosis, you would both agree what you wish to achieve from the sessions, and the hypnosis would be focussed on achieving that outcome. On the other hand, there is stage hypnosis, often used for entertainment, rather than therapy, and this also relies on participants who are willing, but those individuals are willing to perform on stage, and so are more ready to perform on stage, seemingly against their will.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
The feeling is different for everyone, and it depends on what you wish to achieve from your sessions. Most people say they feel very relaxed and calm afterwards.

Who may benefit from Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy can be utilised to access a person’s inner potential, to stimulate the innate healing capacity of their own body. For example, a client may be experiencing insomnia, or digestive issues due to stress. Using hypnotherapy to help deal with the stress, improvements could be seen in the effects brought on by stress. Examples of what Hypnotherapy can be used to deal with are:

  • Anxiety
  • Migraine
  • Anger Management
  • Pain Management
  • Disrupted sleep patterns
  • Panic
  • Fears / phobias
  • Relationship difficultie
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Sporting / artistic performanc
  • Lack of confidence
  • Stress
  • Unwanted habits & addictions (smoking, overeating, alcoholism)
